Personality Overload

A man with 24 personalities in his head? Action and horror? James Mcavoy? Sign me up! M. Night Shyamalan did not disappoint. As someone who typically enjoys the strange and weirdness of his movies, I do believe that Split is one of the more mainstream and likable films he has created. It had the feel of 2007's blockbuster Disturbia mixed with 2010's Shutter Island. This psychological thriller constantly played with your mind and your emotions. At one moment you felt pity towards a few of Mcavoy's character's personalities and then COMPLETE disgust towards another handfull.

Mcavoy's acting prowess shined through so much on the big screen, never have I seen someone portray multiple personalities as well as him. As for the other actors, Betty Buckley was phenomenal as Dr Fletcher and Anya Taylor-Joy's portrayal of Casey Cooke was chilling and inspiring. That being said, I was Haley Lu Richardson and Jessica Sula's performances were honestly just subpar and their characters fairly forgettable.

With the combo of an unbelievably deep plot line and a thoroughly thought out character development (minus the two other girls), really gave the viewers the psychological thriller Spring 2017 was in need of! Just you wait for the last 20 minutes, you will be on the edge of your seat! I give it 7 out of 10 stars, due to the lack of development of two semi important characters. Thanks to the Dallas Observer for the chance to pre-screen this and for this awesome goody bag!
